B.L.D.E. Association, Bijapur
The Bijapur Liberal District Education Association, a premier charitable
Association, was started in 1910 with the sale objective of service,
with sincerity, commitment, vision and with the spirit of obligation
to the sacred cause of education in this part of the state. It has a

has completed nine decades of impressive, fruitful and proud existence
and is running, of present, more than 30 institutions like high Schools,
Pre university colleges, Degree Colleges in Arts, Science and Commerce,
professional institutions like Engineering College, Medical College,
College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Education, Polytechnic
besides a Hospital and Research Center which have made significant contribution
to the development of the Country.
B.L.D.E.A.'S DR. P.G. Halakatti College of Engg. and Tech.
The BLDE Association realized the growing needs of technical education
in this part of the state and started the College of Engineering and
Technology in 1980 with an intake of 145 students for Civil, Electrical
and Mechanical branches. In 1995 this college was renamed as Vachana
Pitamaha DR. P.G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology after
late Dr. P.G. Hallakatti, a scholar research worker in Vachana Sahitya
and a renowned social worker.
Campus
Having
been witness to two empires - The Chalukyan and Rashtrakutan - and the
capital of the Bahamani dynasty of Adilshahis, besides being the Janmabhumi
and Karmabhumi of some of the 12th century Shivasharanas, Bijapur can
boast of monuments which no other place in India can equal. Yet, Bijapur
has failed to figure on the all-India Tourism map. One (like, say, Aldous
Huxley) may not see much in the Taj Mahal of Agra. But the Golgumbaz
of Bijapur is an architectural wonder which no one can keep from admiring.
The temples of Aihole and Pattadkal, the rock-cut caves of Badami, the
Samadhi of Basavanna at Kudalasangam are the other relics which make
the erstwhile undivided district of Bijapur the most historical of historic
sites of India.
